Ian Boyd is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and a committee member of the Children’s Book Council of Australia, SA Branch. Inspired by his role with the Children’s Book Council, he has developed a passion for the role of literacy in the complex learning area of sustainability. With the help of his feisty companion, Biji the Bilby, Ian entertains primary students of all ages with humour and thoughtfulness, drawing from his unique blend of experiences as an author, landscape gardener, and entertainer.

From 1997-99, Ian and wife, Michelle, owned and performed in the Kangaroo Creek Gang Roadshow to children all across Adelaide and regional South Australia, as far north as Mintabie, appearing at horticultural shows, playgroups, kindies, schools, and shopping centres.

As an avid songwriter, Ian received a commendation for “South Australian Lullaby” in the 2000 SCALA festival of original music, and in 2017 co-wrote the music for Adelaide Fringe Festival Show, “The House With No Name.”

In 1995, Ian was chosen as the South Australian Young Hardware Retailer of the year, possibly the strangest honour ever to appear on an author bio.

After twenty years as a self-employed landscape gardener, Ian now volunteers at the Blair Athol North Primary kitchen-garden. In his spare time, he sings, plays guitar and piano, and is quite happy gardening quietly at home. And learning. Always learning.
